Please describe your system/machine/project. What function does your application serve?
The project we carried out was a set of 3 telescopic grandstands, for a total of around 700 seats, which can be moved into a hall and stored in the basement with the help of lifting platforms approximately 4.50 m high. These grandstands make it possible to program shows with the audience present on the grandstands, but also to free up the entire space for any other type of activity (seated banquet, exhibition, etc.).
Where is your application used? In which industry?
Our applications are mainly in the fields of entertainment, culture, education and sports. Our equipment brings versatility to the venue, as well as multiple configurations thanks to the flexibility of our products.
What are the environmental conditions at the end user’s location? What challenges did you have to overcome to adapt to those conditions? (Feel free to provide technical data on speeds, acceleration, and travel distance).
The conditions of use are very good, as this is an auditorium with insulation and air-conditioning. For our part, the conditions at the customers were no obstacle to the realization of this equipment.
What requirements did the energy chains and cables have to fulfil?
How were you able to increase the efficiency of your application with the igus® products? Have you been able to reduce costs?
For this project, the problem was to have, on each floor of the telescopic stands, illuminated stair nosings with LED strips, as well as mobile steps with the same LED strips. Our system also included load-distribution skids controlled by electric jacks mounted on the structure. With all this wiring having to be extended and retracted on every floor, IGUS cable carriers were the obvious choice.

At which points? How did the products solve your problems?
The cable carriers and cables were installed at each end of our 3 grandstands, taking up very little space and ensuring safe operation when the grandstands were folded away.
What alternative solutions did you consider?
All in all, we had few alternatives for cable routing and safety of use. We began the project design process by involving the IGUS cable chain product from the outset.
Does your application contribute to sustainability?
The most important aspect is technicality and reliability, before durability. The chains will only be used a few times a week (3 to 5).
Was there co-operation with igus®? If so, how was it?
Yes, the cooperation with IGUS was important right from the start, as it enabled us to dimension the chain and cable model to be used for our project. This cooperation went very well and was greatly appreciated by the team.
